I bought from tree once, waited double the stated delivery time and had the order arrive in pieces interspersed with much hassling. People, do not but stuff from them. They are the exact opposite of the good service I've had from the Emporium. MJR

Administrivia: MIME attachments

Just a quick reminder that this list is currently holding anything it thinks looks like a MIME attachment for approval, so you should sign/ enclose inline if you must. This dates back to the moron who sent an advert as a large attachment a few months ago. Any problems, as ever, to alug-owner(a)stu.uea.ac.uk (which ought to outlive me...)

Hrm, Not received any ALUG mail since the 8th... Either something's borked or it's been _really_ quiet around here lately. Assuming people can read this message, can we have a stab at discussing the next (physical) meeting of the group? Third Sunday in November perhaps? -- James Green jg(a)linux.com Programmer jg(a)bp2bp.com Programmer, Manager jg(a)linuxnewbie.com

I think we all need to get face-to-face again. We also need webspace updating (Andrew, Martyn, expect mail). John, any luck with the hall? I might get chance to do some posters today (which would be good). MJR

Fujitsu and Sony announced Crusoe Notebook
by Tatsuhiko Maekawa 03 Oct '00

03 Oct '00

Morning from Japan This morning Fujitsu and Sony both announced the release of the notebooks that uses Transmeta's Crusoe CPU. Of which, many of you are more interested in Sony's Vaio C1. Sony Vaio C1 comes with Windows ME, 128Mb SDRAM (x1), 12Gb HD, 8.9 inch Ultra Wide XGA 1024x480 TFT, 56kbps moden, and the rest of Sony stuff. They uses Crusoe TM 5600 600MHz on 100Mhz system clock, so it's kinda fine I guess. The machines lasts 5.5 hours on small battery, 11 hours on large one, and 20 hours on real large one (rofl!) Disappointing about this performance? The first sales at Akihabara - Tokyo's Eletronic Town - comes on 7th October. People predict the price of 230,000 yen - GBP 1,500.00, without 5% Consumption Tax. Fujitsu one's almost the same expect it comes with DVD but TM 5600 540Mhz. And the price's the same. For benefits of people who understands Japanese (more likely to NZ and Aus.) here's URL: http://www.sony.co.jp/sd/ProductsPark/Consumer/PCOM/PCG-C1VJ/ http://www.fmworld.net/product/_frm-pc/biblo-loox_t.html Yours ----- Tatsuhiko Maekawa [Network Integration Dept. OK, there's now a (very) basic site appeared at http://freezope.nipltd.net/alug/ which I think has all the basics from the old site transferred across. I'll improve it with some of the snazzy new facilities when I next get chance. I'd suggest framed-bouncing http://www.anglian.lug.org.uk/ and www.alug.org.uk to it -- can people do that for me, please? So, the two questions are: what's first and who's first? What do you think is the most important thing to put on the site and who's able to help me do it? There, didn't quite take as long as linuxnewbie.com, did it? MJR
