I have just re-joined the list after retiring from work - whoopeee!! I am now well into North Norfolk - at Overstrand near Cromer so the ALUG meetings will definitely be on my agenda now as Norwich is only half an hour away. Topics discussed include: security, the last meeting, my absence and my photo :P For what it's worth, the wvdial problem is from when they have a terminal server backdoor login on their main dialup line because it's so unstable, but wvdial looks at that and thinks "oh, it's a terminal-style login". I've seen it before on another ISP. Chris, thanks. I'll have a look at the win98 tonight, see what the password thing is defaulted to and try and change it. I think linux machine is mounting its own export....I made a test config file, entered the command smbclient -U% -L localhost and Samba showed my test file. (The O'Reilly book assures me this means it is working). Jen

How was the biscuit supply? :-) Sorry not to have made it. I did almost get Samba going last night though. In linux, the test smb.conf I did works fine, but windows says the network is unavailable when I have a look in Network Neighbourhood. Telnet, ping are fine so it isn't the networking. I suspect it may be the netbios name in linux? I get an error on boot in linux to do with setting the hostname, although it goes on to name the computer "mossey". Did many folk show up? Jenny. |You have two routes to go from there that I can see. One, which will |probably get you polished documents with less hacking for now is |LaTeX. The other is some sort of XML markup and formatting tools, but |they're Not All There Yet. (anonymous coward ALUG reader getting to grips) I've running a loopback host configuration of Cocoon (apache.org/XML) for testing purposes, we're about to try installing it on UEA Music servers, to dispatch Humanities XML Group content. So far, it seems to do exactly what it says on the can. Fiddly bits: the Java Servlets (running Tomcat for now) and getting around XSL. It seems to me, though, that for a no-programming (other than bits of XML) solution, it's really well put together...
