Next Meet Is BOOKED

All, I have booked Martlesham heath scout hut for the 12th august 2001. So the next meet will be sunday 12th August. I will be inviting some members of GLLUG and LONIX. The cost of the hall is �10 and I was going to cover this by raffling off a book and possibly a T-shirt. So Usual system now applies, let me know what you will be bringing in the way of hardware and that you will being coming. ALso Don't forget the LUG BBQ afterwoods. I would most definitely argree on that one... ...I've seen too many bodges and work arounds in my time. Let the db engine deal with the replication and leave the app to do their stuff. Ther is a question of wether the replication should be asynchronous or synchronous with db updates... the former means the apps will continue without waiting for the replication but would mean the two databases are out of sync for a period of time. I've seen situation were (near) real-time data is being pushed into a db only with the replicated copy ages behind. Just pray you don't query a db with old data in!!! When you're talking about customers valuable data, this is a BAD thing. There's plenty of free databases out there that support it, so there's little cost argument against (aside from time to implement). Some of the db replication doesn't work to well anyhow AFAIK... ...I know we had to implement some in-house code to replicate some tables manually. Unfortunately, I wasn't on that bit of the project, but I guess it must be possible. Another project actually updated two databases in parallel rather than using some sort of replication software. just my 2 pence... Andi "Ashley T. Ashley, what database engine would you be running? I'm guessing it'll be something Opensource, but we did have a project here a couple of years back that replicated three Oracle databases between three different sites round the World.... AFAIK it worked okay, but the bandwidth becomes an issue if there's a lot of traffic and a high frequency of updates. Andi "Ashley T.
