Actually I think it's a lot easier than it used to be now that Nominet have the web page stuff for it.
You need to get a registrar to take on the domain account and then get it retagged. This costs *at least* 25 quid.
Well, £15+VAT to Nominet for the retagging and then whatever the Nominet member charges you to renew the domain.
