Thanks to all who replied, for somereason, changing the cable
allows it
to work under kppp. I can now log into my isp and get an ip
connection.
but I can't get anywhere else as I think my default route and my
DNS
isn't configured right. Wont resolve names and pings don't work for
any
address other than the other end of my ppp link.
I hear some distributions put a default route in on the internal network which is wrong wrong wrong. Sorry I can't remember what distribution you're using, so I can't advise how to fix it permanently, but you could try using the "route" command to delete any route on the internal network.
when I type route it displays the headings of the route table and then stops.
where can I find displayed the settings for DNS and default Gateway?
I use peanut Linux.
I have a 3com ethernet card in the machine as well which has an IP address of 10.10.10.2 this is configured at bootup with a default gateway of 10.10.10.1. how do I change it all to work with PPP?
It should just work, but why is there a gateway if this is the ppp machine... ie, is there another network beyond 10.10.10.1?
Should... I intend to set up my own internal network and run ppp on demand with a firewall etc... but as yet can't get ppp working. so at the moment the network card isn't even connected to any cables.
Thanks
