Oh yes I have been there....I had one of those (the old style blue frog thing) with the usermode drivers....then after having a few strange bugs I eventually moved to the kernel drivers...Then I moved to 64bit (which the Alcatel drivers didn't like very much) so I bought a router.
It's also possible to get the Conexant AccessRunner PCI ADSL modem working quite well....They are pretty cheap and seem to work better than the USB modems...They are quite difficult to set up initially though.
