I'm thinking that maybe we should move to a UK network, as OPN still only has one usable UK server and is developing in strange ways[1]. Anyone have strong feelings on this?
Agreed with here. Developing very strange ways indeed.
[1] - For people who know about IRC: abolishing O-lines, disabling some useful commands, kicks that look like you did a /part, 4 million americans and thousands of brits banned from their help channel and many more.
Lots of other things more than Mark has mentioned. Lots of nice privacy invading things that I don't agree with and lots of features of normal IRC are being removed in favour of silly new things. Being able to see when a user creates a new channel even without services inside the channel is one of my major gripes. Also there are some things in channels you can no longer control and is left to the IRC Operators to control, some channel modes are included in this, which means you no longer have full control over your own channel.
I don't see a need for half of these new features, they mostly are pointless, and the way they are coded and implemented are totally backwards. More so, while they are being added nice bugs keep cropping up which makes the network totaly unstable to use, such as a recent bug that was exploited to crash all of the servers.
If anyone wants more in-depth discussion of these things, feel free to email.
