Since everyone else is getting their 2 cents-worth, can I say that my three-year-old Dell Inspiron 5000 has served me well so far. The battery gave out earlier this year, and yes, it cost a fortune to replace, but only then did I read in the manual about disconnecting the mains when not in use to preserve the battery. Well, who reads manuals anyway? -- GT
