This was definitely the case, see e.g. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/04/03/123reg_shrugs_at_complaints_over_su... However, I found newer forum posts by people confirming that they were able to change the IPS tag without having to pay. So it's entirely possible that 123-reg scrapped the hidden fees in the mean time. Thomas
