Ah ... I've right-clicked on the blank space within which the "THE VIDEO YOU ARE TRYING TO WATCH IS CURRENTLY UNAVALABLE..." message appears, and it pops up a window for Flash settings with "About Adobe Flash Player 9 ... " at the bottom. So it must be Flash Player which is displaying the message.
So now I wonder: Is it getting that message from timesonline, or is the message built-in to Flash Player and is displayed when some incompatibility is detected? If the latter, this would indicate a difference in capabilities between Player for Linux and Player for Windows.
