Can anybody recommend a good all rounder 54Mbs PCMCIA and/or PCI desktop card that works with Linux like a comfortable slipper and supports a good range on it? I've had enough of Netgear cr*p to last me a lifetime.
Hmm... Interesting, I have 2 Netgear cards... both work beautifully... one's prism54 base (a WG511 v2 Made in Taiwan, and what's currently plugged in), and a WG511T which is atheros based. (Actually, I lied, I've got 3 Netgear cards... the third, however, is a broken Made in China v3 WG511, so not worth mentioning ;)
For quick and easy I'd say the WG511T is not bad, even Jenny got one of those to work. The madwifi driver "just works" (tm), once you've got it compiled up :)
Most of the other crap on the market is broadcom based, at least in my experience.
IIRC there's a few 3Com cards that are prism54 based, and just work, but I can't remember which, and I've a feeling that the modern ones also use a broadcom chipset (run away run away ;)
