The word "fedora" and the image of a certain type of hat shouldn't belong to anyone now. Surely it is old enough to be in the public domain? When protection of service marks becomes dictionary privatisation, there will always be problems like this. Hardly surprising.
That said, it doesn't look like the universities registered it as trademark of their research spin-off, so it probably just means the RH one is indefensible and the above will come to pass. I wonder how this will play out.
