I'm quietly biting my tongue :-)
3pm so we don't clash with the Jazz?
Or we could make the Jazz the first thing on the agenda! A few drinks and some good music would be a great way to kick things off...
I'd swap the troubleshoot and the demos, so that the open-ended item is the last one. Apart from the first bit, I take it we're going for an open-style meeting with bits of kit on tables around the room?
Yep, fair enough. Kinda depends on how many people want demos really, although it would be good if we got some "not using linux, but wanting to see what it's all about" types at the meet.
On a side note, I'm thinking of writing to local computer companies to see if we can scrounge some goodies from them. I was thinking PC World, Software Warehouse, Time - any others in East Anglia worth hassling?
I thought I'd say something like....

Dear _______,
On Sunday 2nd May 1999 the Anglian Linux User Group will be holding its inaugural meeting. We are expecting a good crowd of people from all walks of life to attend what is sure to be an entertaining and informative introduction to linux.
As I'm sure you are aware, the free linux operating system has been gaining huge amounts of support both from computing hobbyists and professionals and the mainstream press. The Anglian Linux User Group is just one sign of the growing support for the operating system in this region.
I am writing to you to ask if you would be able to support this event. Sponsorship in whatever form of this event would be a very good way for your company to show support for your customers, which in turn I'm sure would encourage your customers to visit you more frequently.
Particular areas where help would be appreciated include:
* Software - copies of RedHat Linux or Applixware as sold by your company would be extremely welcome during the "installation" part of our meeting;
* Media - blank CDs would be useful, as we intend to provide visitors with copies of other free software such as Netscape.
* Financial - any donations to the Anglian Linux User Group would help us to cover our overheads and would ensure a glowing recommendation of your company!
Thank you for your time, and if you wish to discuss any ways you can help further, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours,
blah.
