If you use Wammu, the GUI front end, you should get a Wizard which you can use to configure it to the phone. If the phone is connectable to Wammu, then it should connect. I did find with my Samsung that I needed to fiddle around with the settings before I got it to work and Wammu/Gammu is a little temperamental.
However, I have a sneaking suspicion that it's like a cheap Nokia I have which has a mini-USB port but it does nothing as the phone isn't designed to interface with a computer. Is the Alcatel equipped to connect with a computer? I couldn't see whether it did or not on my quick Google for it.

I have a fairly basic Alcatel OT S319 phone. There is no hope of expanding the memory so I would like to find some software to help me transfer the text to my PC. What should I look for? I have found a list of possibilities but I've no idea which would be the most Linux compatible. Thanks.
