All,
I'm quite convinced of the ground-swell of approval for avoiding an Ipswich LUG split and I don't see a problem with starting out on the ALUG mailing list. It's easy enough to change later, if there's any issues, anyway.
I've sent Dave a mail off-list and, as long as we can agree on a website which we can make use of, I hope there won't be a need for a split.
The main concern is that all the LUGs in Anglia have easy access to their website etc. because they run their own infrastructure locally - so it's simply a matter of talking to the administrators at the LUG meets to try new stuff. Unfortunately, we won't have that opportunity at Ipswich meets, if the server's being administered by someone further away, e.g. Norwich. That shouldn't be a problem, I just want to make sure we'll end up with a website which is flexible enough for those of us further away to easily add content, i.e. a user-focused wiki. I think Dave et al are intending to move toward this direction so hopefully we should be able to sort something out.
I'm delighted there's been so much feedback on the topic, tho .. :)
It's a good sign!
Peter.
