Can we (and possibly other groups such as UKUUG) complain about this? There is really no need for these silly restrictions. Is there a suitable email address?
You will find an email address on the www.btinteractive.com web site. The reason for W95 is that they are working with PC World (spit, yuchh), and that is all that they understand.
Once you have it up and running you can throw away the windows.
You are now directly connect to the internet, so security is a major issue.
Presumably, though, as it runs NAT/Masq, people can't get at your machine directly from outside? Is there provision for forwarding web server ports or similar?
It is all masqueraded, at least so far as official addresses are concerned. I suspect though that non-BT addresses go through as-is. I have not yet experimented with my legit, static, public Demon IP.
Anyway, thanks for a useful guide. As part of our region is covered by the ADSL, do you fancy making it into a quick web page? You could add it to the links page (as soon as Andrew adds some more categories).
Anyone who want to convert it to a web page is welcome to do so. I do not have time for this at te moment. You can get updates to the page by sending mail to my server majordomo@panache.demon.co.uk The BODY of the message should be get linux ADSL.txt
Actually, that's a point: what categories of links do we need? "Members" is a glaring omission at present.
Please, NOT a list of members. Such a list, if it is accessible, should be for members' access only.
