I'm looking at a phone upgrade, and current favourite is the new Sony
Ericsson Satio. Right, well I bit the bullet and upgraded, and I'm pleased to report that G/Wammu recognised the phone (as a Sony Ericsson, not by model) and allowed me to extract contacts and SMS really simply. It seems that SE support widely recognised AT command standards that Nokia don't.
I still need to use Windows to upgrade firmware (well I say that, I haven't actually tried looking for alternative methods or tried installing the SE software under Wine - I haven't even installed it on Windows yet!) but for a phone I got on Saturday (and I was away from my PC almost all weekend) I'm already much further ahead with Linux than I ever got with the Nokia N82 in three years.
Good to know. If the Satio is like my c905 then there is an option to upgrade the firmware over the air. I'm not sure about custom, or non-operator approved firmware, but when I last tried it the phone said there was no upgrade available.
