Erk. Since you *ahem* shut off the system. It didn't complete the installation of X. Your best bet is to install xinit rpms and a bunch of others it properly requires.
I never really did like mandrake linux everytime it 'stops' halfway through installation on the laptop a few months back (testing which distros is best). Apparently, Debian did the job fine.
