Could anyone recommend some open source astronomy software? I'm looking for something to do the job of "Starry Night" and "Registax" so if anyone has any personal recommendations, I'd love to hear them.
I can recommend Stellarium; it's much like Starry Night Backyard, easy to use, looks great, and ideal for quick "Dad, what's that star called?" questions. Then there is Celestia, which is more flying through space, so you can go look at Mars, visit the "half moon", look at the orbits of planets etc. KStars and XEphem are apparently popular too, but I haven't used them myself.
