Hi there,
You won't have heard much from me, but I have been following the mailing list for a while and now I have a question.
I have recently purchased Linux Mandrake 7.0 and am trying to install Lnx4win on my E: partition. I tried to install Linux as a dual boot option but it causes my Windows partition to becom i n c r e d i b l y slow and unuseable. Since I am using the computer for my doctorate I cannot afford
to
let this happen (I had to re-install everything after the last crash - caused by Linux) but if there is a way of installing Linux on another partition without it affecting the performance of my Windows system then I would dearly love to know how. I think my Windows partition needs to know that a UNIX drive is attatched to the system and live with it (which seems like a tall order to me!)
Hi,
If you want to prevent any problems with your windows system then your best bet is to buy another disk and install linux on that. I have an old 2gb disk with redhat on and I can boot it from my windows disk using loadlin. Using this you can then mount the windows disk if you need access to it. This prevents the risk of causing any problems on my windows disk which contains a lot of my research work.
