Many years ago when I had a smallholding between Starston and Hardwick I had an eleven-yar-old staying for part of the summer, and on one particularky dark and clear night after putting the goats to bed he saw the night sky and - well, as the Bible puts it - marvelled.
"We don't get stars in Harold Wood!"
I had to explain about light pollution, etc. As I pointed out the constellations (the ones I knew, anyway) we saw several meteors.
