One other point is that the open letter is written by Alan Cox (if you don't know who he is then, shame on you!) ;)
Anarchy in the UK (OK, that's a really niche joke... You'll understand it if you "have a bad day").
would be very interested in their voting record and how this fits with what their claimed position is,
High-level view, as I remember it: the Lib-Dems published position seemed correct, but their "lead" MEP on this issue seemed to vote the other way and most other MEPs followed them. I'm not sure if they're following another EU national party in their "bloc" on this, but they are the largest national group in it anyway.
Bloc? Most UK MEPs form part of a coalition when in the European Parliament, most of the time. * Lab -> Socialists (PSE); * Con -> People's Parties and Democrats (EPP); * LibDem -> Liberals (ELD); * Greens, Plaid, SNP -> Greens/Freedom (G/EFA); * UKIP -> Diversities (EDD); * Independents usually stay independent.
For a precise view, chew the data files from my web page as they become available. I'd be interested in linking to your results.
Although I would think that Alan Cox would have based his open letter on similar research as to that which MJR is doing.
Surprisingly, there's not a huge amount of public research yet and most of what their is covers the past MEPs, not the candidates. I'm linking to it as I find it.
I would really love help questioning candidates. The questions are online now.
