I have successfully used freebasic on ubuntu. http://sourceforge.net/projects/fbc/ It may not be the best but it worked without the need for WINE or any other such pre-requisites. I originally used it under windoze xp (about 10 years ago) and was able to migrate the programs written there to linux with very little difficulty. Nev
