I want to copy Evolution contacts, calendars, tasks and memos from one user to another and can find no remotely sensible way of doing it.
I tried copying the whole .evolution hierarchy but that seemed to do nothing at all - I suspect possibly because of Evolution background processes hanging on to things.
Copying addressbook.db apparently doesn't work according to what I can surmise from a bit of googling.
Is there really no way to do this?
One of the "interesting" things about evolution is the db engine it uses now.
You have the built in backup/restore facility which is a start...however unfortunately when you restore this it used to use absolute paths so a backup taken as "user1" would only work if restored as "user1" (maybe they have fixed that now...have you tried using the backup and restore function)
Yes, but the trouble is that it copies *everything*, all E-Mails as well as the rest and we don't really want E-Mails copied. We just want to copy the 'framework' (if you will) so that B can have A's appointments, contacts, etc. but be a different person from the point of view of E-Mails etc.
But I vaguely recall being able to extract the compressed file created by the evolution backup and then manually import the bits I wanted as they were in a sane format within the backup rather than being in evolution's db format.
Note, I have given up with evolution now so this is from clouded memory and therefore may not be 100% accurate.
Thanks anyway, I just trid unzipping an evolution-backup.tar.gz file, took ages (as there's 3Gb of it). There are 2177 files in it so it's a bit difficult to extract just the bits we want! :-)
