I avoid the stock 2.4.* kernels (but use the kernel-source-) because I'm not a fan of initrd, and I prefer the serious stuff compiled-in rather than as modules. make-kpkg is well worth using.
I remember compiling from source a while back, and not using a ramdisk. The system wasn't a great fan of that... It would hang indefinitely if I tried to copy large files... yuk. Still, this time I'll have a dmesg from a 2.4.9 kernel to use as a guide.
Anyone know which x package a geforce2mx videocard (usually nv driver)will need? (Seeing as it will probably need to be gotten manually).
Also, is there a virtual package for gnome? i.e. to set up a whole gnome desktop, without individually d/l loadsa different packages.
