Hi Linux users
Welcome Paul
Previously I have installed and used Ubuntu on my main P4 computer, dual booting it with XP Pro. That system became unbootable and I ended up reformating and re-installing XP Pro. I'm now looking at other distros to find better ones to use on an old Celeron 3 computer for surfing and multimedia.
You could look at xubuntu which is essentially a version of Ubuntu better suited to slower machines with less memory. I am running it on a very slow sub-notebook with 256MB of Ram and it is quite happy.
There is a memory limitation with the livecd/standard installation version of 128MB to boot it and 192MB if you want to install it, there is an alternate installation CD that will work as low as 64MB but at that point I would start hunting out more memory as although Linux will run many of the apps you might want to play with will struggle.
