Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice and hints on how to go about installing and managing a large group of desktop machines, with shared file stores and resources such as applications, printers, etc. By large, I mean more than 500 machines. Think of a large university lab or internet cafe, where people can login to any machine, do their 'work', access their files independent of terminal used, etc.
This does not relate specifically to any of the issues mentioned in the (deleted) further part of your posting, but in general, you may be interested in FAI (Fully Automatic Installation) for Debian GNU/Linux, at

In my Cologne days (perhaps 5 years ago or so), I heard a quite convincing talk by the author. I don't have any experience with FAI of my own, though (I don't have that many computers ;-) ).
