For my entry in the retheme competition, I'm struggling to find a suitable picture that conveys "Anglia" or ALUG's sense of place in the world too. My current ideas are the Norwich skyline (visible at http://mjr.towers.org.uk/comp/alugtalk/ just now), Ely cathedral, Orwell bridge, or Lynn's custom house. UEA Nelson
I have a bit of a dislike of using Norwich Cathedral as it is a bit too "Norwich" and not enough "East Anglia" (i.e. I think using it as a picture makes people associate it with Norwich more than East Anglia). Seeing that Alug has a good presence in Norwich already that image just reinforces that stereotype that Alug is in Norfolk/Norwich only, which currently it is, a bit, sortof, and I think we really want to try and find some other meeting venues in the Anglia region. (The Ely meetings seem to have stalled, and we havn't been to Syleham for a while).
I have to fully agree about the finding a picture for East Anglia not being easy as it is so geographically big and quite diverse. The tux riding an Anglia TV horse idea isn't a bad one, and I always wondered about any Iceni/Anglo-Saxon links we could push? The only other thing I can think of is a bit "Norfolk" so not /that/ suitable again which would be Tux on a Wherry... Of course, we are a bit of a farming region so how about Tux in a brand-new-combine-harvester ;) or working as a gang master with an illegal immigrant workforce? ;) I don't think we could really settle for a Tux with a bit of straw in his mouth as that is more a Somerset thing?
Does anyone on the list have any ideas about what really pushes "East Anglia" graphically?
Thanks Adam
