I can't answer the specific problem but here are some suggestions:
1. Have you updated all packages? There are frequent bug fixes as well as security updates. Always the first thing to do after an install :-)
2. In a similar vein, there were a lot of fixes between 9.0 and 9.1 - first thing I would do would be to upgrade the mandrake installation. I have the 3-CD download edition if you want to contact me off-list. The d/l version is 100% free s/w so there are no licence problems associated with copying and distributing them.
3. In keeping with the mandrake philosophy, the forums on Mandrake Club http://www.mandrakeclub.com have a free non-members area. If updating the installation does not help then you might like to ask there. The mandrake support community is one of its greatest resources.
4. I know this sounds a bit windows-like, but you could try doing an upgrade install as this may be more successful in recognising and configuring the printer. I have done this a couple of times with changed hardware. It takes only a few minutes and some presses of the return key. Of course the complete upgrade to 9.1 is still preferable.
