Connected new HP laser printer (Laserjet Professional P1100w) and Mint found it, knew what it was, installed it, and that was all.
Turn it on and lights flash and then settle to a single continuous one, but I can't make it print: it just sits there sullenly.
I've been having trouble with recent CUPS versions, I'm running version 1.7rc1 on Ubuntu 13.10 at the moment. Often my HP 1320 printer behaves like yours, no errors from the sending end and no print-out.
If I reboot then the printer will often print successfully but then after a few jobs lapses into sullen silence again.
This never used to happen a few versions ago.
I think I have finally found out what the problem was. The latest CUPS HP drivers are PCL6 and these "don't agree" with my fairly old Laserjet 1320.
When the printer stopped working it *sometimes* printed out an error message headed "PCL XL error" and searching for this suggested that downgrading the driver to PCL5E would fic the problem. On CUPS the only specific PCL version available is PCL3 so I've changed the driver to that one and now all seems to be OK.
