Has anyone got any comments, warnings, POW, etc. about burning data DVDs under Gnu/Linux?
I got a DVD writer recently, specifically to use for backups, but have yet to get it to work properly with GnomeBaker (is there a better app?, perhaps I'd be better using simple CLI commands) although it works fine with Nero under Windows (haven't tried DVD video burning yet and probably won't for some time).
The power of the CLI aside I tend to find that K3b gives me the most flexibility and the best results...it is of course a KDE app but it seems to work fine here under Ubuntu's Gnome desktop.
There is a minefield of things that can cause problems (not least of which is what tools need to run as root etc) k3b will helpfully warn of and correct these problems when you first run it.
IMO k3b is so good I find myself wishing there was a Windows version to use rather than Nero (which is the best of the Windows bunch...but has gotten progressively more 'fluffy' in later releases)
