I'm not sure if some previous installation has screwed the modchip I've put in but it now comes up with a Gentoox ROM and that won't boot the XBMC disc I'm putting in so things are on hold at the moment while I resolve that. I've grabbed a copy of Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v4.40.iso and have tried installing that but with the problem shown.
Not had any direct experience of hardware mod chips..all the xmbc installations I have been involved with have been softmods which is IMO the way forward.
However can you boot from one of the xbox boot cd's that offer an ftp server and then use that to replace default.xbe with the xbmc one...that should work.
The bootable dashboard cd's should be available in the usual places but if you get really stuck I can probably rustle up an ISO
Thanks for that.
The iso I have also has lots of BIOS files and extras with it so I'm hopeful that one way or another I can fix the problem.
I also have a remote control and I was hopeful that XBMC would be able to use and from what limited material I've read, I think it will. I could be proved wrong of course!
Yes XBMC works perfectly with the stock xbox remote, in fact it is almost a necessity because usability goes right up when you have the remote buttons.
I want it to fit into a domestic environment (I might have to do something about the fan noise later) and so a remote control seems 'de riguer'.
