Not conversant with that device, but to this collector of ancient things, it sounds rather earlier than anything I have in use.
I am at a loss to think what one would use the tape drive for now that hard discs have arrived...

It was used for backup on the controller of a high volume laser printer but they were also used for the odd mainframe task.
As for age, I think it was first used in the mid 80's.
Ah, I think my 'anything SCSI' was probably a bit over unspecific. I have little enough space left in Chez Walk Sideways, and I think my terrabite external drive will probably outperform even a SCSI tape streamer?
Thanks for offering it, and i might have been pleased to give it a home if I weren't trying (vainly) to make more room by disposing of treasures - and other things.
