FWIW, we bit the bullet and set up nagios.
Which that is. We did that about, oh, 2 years ago, and stuck with monit despite its shortcomings and relatively poor documentation. Now I see that a lot has been done with Nagois, with some good config tools around, and some large Corps have taken it up (I see contract work now and again) so I'll take a look again. Thanks.
