I asked some people I trust, and more than one came up with gandi.net. An added bonus was that they can handle .nz domains, which was a pre-req for the client.

However, gandi are one of ones with the more expensive .com (etc) domains that I haven't got my head around yet. I have very few of them so it's not a big issue, but here's some examples: - dynadot: .co.uk=£5.99, .com=£7.99 - namecheap: .co.uk=£5.90, com=£6.91 - gandi: .co.uk=£6.00, .com=£13.86 - mythic: .co.uk=£7.20, .com=£14.40
There has to be a reason for this.
(Incidentally I'm having to rule out Mythic as they change £10/yr for email forwarding and some of my domains use that a lot; I could roll my own but all of the others include it.)
