Hi guys,
Thought I'd get this question in before everyone gets hammered (or not as the case may be) tonight.
I just update to Debian Potato with apt-get dist-upgrade (8 hours on dial-up) and I'm now having a couple of problems. The first is that when I upgraded it only downloaded kernel 2.2.12, why is this as I'm sure 2.2.13 was listed in the mirror and is there anyway to just apt-get the patch? the other main problem I'm having is with xdm when I exit the xserver, ps ax reports xdm as running but the svga server doesn't respawn leaving me with a blank logon screen.
Also has anyone got recommendations for a MTA to use with Debian is exim any good? and what about news I figure I will be using slrn to read news but do I want to use suck or leafnode? is there anything better?
If you can help guys I will be very happy as I may be able to wave goodbye to Windows 98 for the new year.
Have a good time tonight whatever you do.
Adam

Dunno about the kernel, I've been rolling my own. I've been running potato for a while now, and I've recently started getting the same problem, but with wdm - also I'm not using the standard X server (the vmware one, instead) Something screwy in the xdm scripts???

smail + leafnode. Haven't tweaked'em in ages, they just "lurk'n'work"!

And that will be a "Happy New Year"

I use sendmail + slrnpull (when I'm on dialup at any rate ;) - slrn + slrnpull is the nicest way I've found of pulling news.
Just my opinion thou ;)

Too late. ;)

Now here's a bit I can contribute to: If you're using slrn to read news, it's much easier to use slrnpull and point that at your personal scorefile so it avoids downloading stuff you've killed (assuming a single-user setup). Exim is wonderful, like smail rewritten for internet use. Just don't touch the header rewriting stuff (evil evil) unless you really know what you're doing.
Then again, I read news in mutt, so what do I know? :-)
