Installed Agnula DeMuDi from Linux User & Developer Magazine but couldn't log off - shut down computer. Had it set up as full desktop. Is there a way to get out of the session without just switching the computer off.

What's the default desktop and display manager for DeMuDi? Its generally the display manager thats in charge of whether and how you can do a graphical shutdown.
If the all else fails you could just go:
ALT+CTRL+F1 login: root password: ****** # halt

Depending on which version of DeMuDi, the default desktop is likely to be either GNOME or KDE, according to distrowatch.planetmirror.com/demudi+demudi+default+desktop&hl=en
In either case there should be a graphical 'logout' or 'shutdown' option in the menu accessible from the left hand side of the panel/toolbar.
