OK, that motorcycle sound making frog phone-tone advert that seems to be on every webpage recently is annoying the hell out of me. Does anyone know how to turn off the sound in firefox please? I can't see anything on the prefs page or about:config. I don't care how it's done (short of compiling the source), please help me get rid of that frogs tedious 'brrrmmmmm'ing noises (and all the other beeps and sounds some web developers like to use) ;)
(running firefox 0.8 on Sarge)

Just had a look and I can't see anything obvious without delving within. I've got sound turned off altogether on this box, so I'm never aware of the depth of naffness to which many wibbles sink.

I'm surprised firefox 0.8 didn't have the popup-blocker. Can you upgrade? I think 0.8 has a security problem anyway.
Now, if only I could block the tv ads. Hate the frog. Fluffy chick is OK. At least the annoying drunk reindeer one isn't as common.

Do you have Flash installed?
Otherwise Anthony has the right idea - no sound. I am the kind of person who mutes the TV and the car radio while the adverts are on (harder to know when the adverts end on the radio).
Tim.

I don't know about anyone else, but I haven't been bothered by those ads at all, although I do get the pop-ups sometimes, I don't have the same trouble because I use the adBlock firefox extention (also works with netscape which is nice). It's such a simple plugin, but such a powerful one too, whenever you see an ad, just right click on it, and click 'block ad', take the unique identifiers off the URL and add a wildcard or two and voila, after a week or so using it you hardly get any ads (also blocks javascripts like the intellitext links on expert-exchange)

Yeah, adblocking would work for a lot of the annoying noises on the net. Now to find a way to get rid of the other noises (although I think I do have flash installed. I'll get rid of that too)

Can't say I've ever come across anything this annoying but there a couple of things you could try: privoxy is a fairly useful proxy that does a pretty good job of blocking adverts and only adverts and the FlashBlock plugin for firefox is very very useful; it display a little icon in place of flash anims and requires you to click on it before it will start the animation.
