Hi, does anyone know how to do this? Play videos from the Guardian that is?
I am doing open with from Konqueror. Mplayer seems not to be able to find the file. Totem wants a plug in text/html decoder, which I have not been able to find one. I seem not to be able to install vlc, this on Squeeze, because it requires vlc-nox, and that then requires a bunch of other stuff which I can't get. So apt-get says it has an unresolvable dependency problem.
Seems odd, but there it is. But I don't see why totem should not work. Unless the Guardian is doing something odd?

For what it's worth: I had a look at the top-level page on this morning's Guardian website, and saw a video image above the headline
Leeds bin strikers hold out for deal Video (4min 44sec), Leeds Council's move to equal pay has brought with it a big pay cut for bin men and a bitter labour dispute.
Right-clicking on the image popped a menu window which said (amongst other things) "About Adobe Fash Player 9". So it seems that the video is intended to be played by Flash Player.
As it happens I have the Flash Player 9 (not the latest version) plugin installed for my Iceweasel browser (Gnome in Debian Etch).
So I then clicked on the "play" button, and got a perfect playback of the video about the Leeds bin-men's strike (preceded by a Kenco advert). Likewise the video from the story immediately below that one.
What's not clear is whether the video stream from the Guardian is SWF (Shock Wave Flash) or FLV (Flash Video), since no URL for the video shows up with the mouse over any part of it; nor could I make anything relevant out from the page source.
Anyway, this indicates that Flash Player may be the way to go. Totem will play FLV "out of the box"; I'm not sure about SWF.
Ted.
