Paul:
A few suggestions for "Useful Apps" Spreadsheet - Kspread
Gnumeric, siag.
Wordprocessor - Kword (when it doesn't crash), LyX.
AbiWord, pw and I guess OpenOffice.
Graphics packages - Gimp, ImageMagic, gphoto.
Sketch, Impress (possibly)
Games - Just to pander to the M$ wimps.
bzflag network game anyone? :)
Communications are a very strong point not to be forgotten: GNUmail, LuserNET, Mozilla, etc. Probably the small armada of server tools should be demo'd, even if we focus on desktop affairs.
Anyway, we should all add reviews to the web site, shouldn't we? I've been very bad about that, too. A quick appeal, though -- please put your name on pages, especially if you're going to talk about things like "the author has never...". ;-)
As long as we don't go touting vi or emacs as aceptable tools.
Regards, Paul.
Off to get the fire extinguishers and Nomex suit <g>

vi and emacs are not viable tools for *word* processing, no... but... replace word processing with text processing, write your documents in TeX and have a whole world of new fun! Also, for the weak, there's lyx, which will cheerfully spit out TeX files while looking a little like a wordprocessing app.
Text Editors are the way forward... why do you think everythings going XML based, surely it can't all just be hype... no... that wouldn't cause such a diverse bunch of people to start playing with a mark up language... surely. There must be more to it than that... oh yeah, content and presentation seperation <g>.
Ho hum, that was a poor rant. Damn. I must have a cold or something. *SNEEZE*, cough, hack, bleargh.
Cheers,
Brett
