OK, as part of my policy of announcing things about 17 years before I'll get time to do it, I'm going to make the following proposal:
Proposal: - Move the ALUG web site to static core and a Wiki
Background information: http://c2.com/cgi/wiki
Rationale: - We're not keeping an up-to-date site - People bitch at me variously about XML and CVS - People bitched at me about Zope - People will still bitch about the Wiki, but at least we should get an up-to-date web site with no barrier to entry at all.
Your options: - Idly support this move (most people) - Pledge to help maintain the wiki when it's online - Mutiny (feel free)
Vote now :-)

Very true something needs to be done.
- People bitch at me variously about XML and CVS
Including me, too much trouble for us non-programer types who don't use cvs on a daily basis.
- People bitched at me about Zope
I feel zope failed due to apathy and the rapid change to cvs.
- People will still bitch about the Wiki, but at least we should get an up-to-date web site with no barrier to entry at all.
People will bitch about anything "why no free beer at alug meets then".
A site with information that is no out of date on a wiki and static stuff with a life of more that the time between meets on a standard web with editors having access seems the best bet.
Your options:
- Idly support this move (most people)
I support the move but at least I have given it some thought.
- Pledge to help maintain the wiki when it's online
Yes I will help maintain the wiki if it is in my ability. (I hope this doen't come back to haunt me).
- Mutiny (feel free)
Is that a free mutiny as in open source, I mean we can't have a non GPL mutiny now can we. :-)
Vote now :-)
It gets my vote as long as if it don't work we try something else, which is what we seem to have done throughout so go ahead.

As someone who simply wants to consult the site occasionally, I have no objection to what ever back-end technology is used. On the basis of what I have seen in my few months around Alug, the usual principle is to make things as complicated and technical as possible just for the hell of it so why not try wiki next?
[If I knew the emoticon for tongue-in-cheek then I'd put it here - but, you know, there is an element of truth in this..]
Which reminds me, wasn't there some talk a while back of an Alug library? Does it exist? Did it ever get further than the Database-programming wars - perhaps advancing to a notebook and biro stage of technological evolution?
