I've bought a number of USB3 cards in the past which usually work for a while but never for long. Maybe a reboot will bring them back to life, maybe it won't!
Any recommendations for a good USB3 card for Linux (Ubuntu)? It'll be mainly used for accessing external USB drives, which may be connected 24/7.
Chipset recommendations are useful, but I'm learning that either the card matters as much as teh chipset or not all chipsets are what they claim to be.
Ideally I want 4 external ports, but 2 would suffice most of the time. (Everything that I connect to it will be powered so minimal USB power required, although I assume I'll still need to supply additional power to the card?)

Can't comment on whether the card I have will work in Ubuntu as I don't use it but the card I have has worked for some months with a Seagate USB 1TB drive which I shuffle between this machine and my Humax satellite box.
Under 'Hardware' my machine reports it as VL80x xHCI USB 3.0 Controller from VIA Techologies.
I've just found the box for it. That just says 'Super Speed USB 3.0 PCI-Express Card with 4 External Ports' and has a price tag of £25 on it.
I can't remember where I bought it sadly but I see that Amazon do loads of them slightly cheaper.

I don't recall having to do that although my memory may well be playing tricks on me again.

Searching for a VL80x card on Amazon didn't get me anything useful; in the end I plumped for this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00JEVLCZI
.. which has the Renesas µPD720202 chipset, and despite multiple attempts to get it working I failed miserably in Ubuntu 15.04 (Google wasn't particularly helpful). I have now returned that and ordered this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00B6ZCNGM
.. which gets good reviews including from Linux users, so I'll see how I do there. (I note that both are Inateck cards.)
Thanks for the help. Hopefully I'll get there in the end!
