I had this happen to me before I left SuSE/KDE for Ubuntu/Gnome and it was due to something nasty happening in my mail folder because I had accidentally opened two copies of kmail as the same user. I think re-importing the messages fixed it.

Hi Wayne Not sure what happened, but I took a chance and deleted /home/nick/.kde/share/config/ .kmailrc/ and ksyscoca and logged in again and all was fine. Had to setup my account again and all my old messages appeared again. I may have opened two copies of Kmail not sure, many thanks for advice. Kind Regards - Nick Daniels
