Looking to pick the collective knowledge of the ALUG group - I need to use a USB printer on a Windows '95 install. I seem to remember that '95 doesn't support USB and that SP2 provided that support? Am I right? Any ideas where I might be able to pick up a copy of Win '95 SP2?
Cheers, Nick

Windows 95 B and C support up to one USB device, IIRC (also becareful, not all USB drivers work properly under Windows 95). Windows 95 A does not. There is no way to "upgrade" - you have to reinstall. I suspect at that point, it becomes easier to just find a copy of Windows 98 instead.

Well, I don't want to be a doomsayer but....
I've tried twice to get a USB printer working with W95 SP2 (plus all the MS patches you need to download and apply) and both times ended up giving up and installing W98 instead.
I've been told (by a source I don't feel is wholly reliable :o) ) that the USB interface definition has evolved and that W95 probably only supports the earlier versions. How true this is I don't know.
No chance of upgrading to something like Knoppix? :o)
Incidentally a friend had a problem setting up his USB printer with WinMe recently and we were able to prove that the printer was OK by booting with a Knoppix disk and setting up and using the printer.

I have a copy of Win95 SP2, complete with booklet, and genuine serial number certificate. Never tried USB with it though. Send me your address and it's yours.
