Chris, thanks. I'll have a look at the win98 tonight, see what the password thing is defaulted to and try and change it. I think linux machine is mounting its own export....I made a test config file, entered the command smbclient -U% -L localhost and Samba showed my test file. (The O'Reilly book assures me this means it is working). Jen
