Hi Folks,
I've had a 256MB USB memory stick for a few weeks -- very useful for transferring files etc.
Now -- this is twice the RAM (128MB) on my laptop.
It would often be useful to have more RAM!
Is there a way to extend RAM using such a device?
(Something like a RAM-disk appended to hardware RAM).
Thanks, and best wishes to all, Ted.

There's no real way that I can think of, and USB is slooooooowwwwww for working as ram, the closest that I can think of is initialising it as a swap partition and using that.
Of course, there's the other issue, in that there's only a certain number of times that you can write to a USB memory stick, and so it would get 'worn out' very quickly and fail.

Unfortunately there's 2 problems - first, flash memory has limited number of writes in its life. not a problem with file copies, but using it as swap space would be a killer
secondly, usb1 is even slower than a hard drive, so you'd be better off with a normal swap space. usb2 is quicker, but still not "quick"

I can give you some handy hints on how to extend a swap partition :-)))))))))
