Try looking in /etc/X11 or /etc/X11R6 (or something like that - I'm at work so I can't get on my system to check) for the global xsession or xinitrc file.
I've been round this loop myself but can't, for the life of me, remember! (which is REALLY useful information! - not). Somewhere there's the config file that starts the single xterm session, that's the one you want.
