Hi,
Firstly I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good wireless ADSL router. The problem with my current router (dlink 604+) is that it cant seem to handle more than one person using a substantial amount of bandwidth constantly, even though over all there is bandwidth to spare. For example only one person in the house can listen to Internet radio or stream video at once, with a 2MBit link two Internet radios at 128k should be possible! So are there any routers that would share out the bandwidth more effectively to 2-5 computers at once (cheap ones :D)?
Although I don't think there is anything that can be done I may aswell ask about an issue with my graphics card. It is a Xfx Geforce 6600GT 128MB, and the problem is whenever I open up any 3D application X will crash and restart, on windows any 3d applications will cause the screen to display some horizontal odd colored lines, then go blank, then I have to do a hard reboot. I tried taking out the card and putting it back in (PCIe), no difference. I wrote a small program just opening a blank opengl window and that was enough to cause the crash. 2D performance works fine, and the card had been working properly for around 9 months before this; the drivers I am using on Linux are a fairly recent nvidia beta (1.0-9631) - 3D was working fine some time after I last updated them. Because the problem started on both operating systems at once I think it can only be a hardware problem - but I really don't want to buy a new card so any suggestions would be good.
(amd x2 3800+, 1024mb ram, asus a8n-e mobo, Xfx Geforce 6600GT 128MB video card)
Thanks, Luke

I recently ditched my 604+ because it seemed to be struggling somewhat with MaxDSL. Basically I could crash it on demand. If for example I did a random search on Google and then middle clicked each link on the page to open in a new tab the Router would die and require power off/power on before it would work again. Before my MaxDSL upgrade it was fine. Whether this is faulty or just rubbish by design I am not sure.
My personal favourites are Draytek, ZyXEL and Netgear DG834's (in that order) the first two are pretty expensive but rock solid in my opinion. The netgear's are mostly ok although they do crash from time to time and we have had a few returns (which netgear are notoriously crap at)
You can buy a factory refurb 834G for £40 from digidave.co.uk..Also your local PC World is usually peddling out something with a respectable name for about the same money.
Reference the GFX card, it does sound very much like a hardware problem, perhaps an issue with the video ram. I'd try and substitute a similar card borrowed from somewhere to confirm. I have also seen some GFX cards upset by a failing or poor quality PSU.

Do the PCI-e versions of this card require an additional power connector? the AGP versions do and don't do 3d very well if you don't plug it in. The other consideration is have you checked the fan is working? and have you tried underclocking the card to see if that helps (or checked it isn't overclocked). As you say the problem occurs in > 1 OS then I suspect it is faulty hardware.

Not quite the order I would give as I have found Zyxels to be less than perfect, in particular a 660H I had would need rebooting regularly if I used some of the 'less travelled' parts of the software, in particular Media Bandwidth Management.
I now have a Sppedtouch 716WL which I can't fault and was very reasonably priced.

My Sppedtouch (also a refurb) was about that price with full firewall *and* two SIP phone ports.
