True enough, nice graphics and less technical information always make the new user happy! The thing that always gets me is the number of times the Linux install is talked about as being too hard for the average Windows user. How many average Windows users have actually installed Windows? My parents have been using Windows since 3.1 on a 386 but never actually installed it - it always comes preinstalled!

I agree. The debian manuals are actually quite good and very direct. A new user to Linux will probably require more flowery detail on a topic to make them feel comfortable. I remember reading about configurating X under the new version of Debian. The answer was a one line command call :)
