What do you want to know? I am thinking of writing something for the website on this, but I have been busy writing my first RFC "IP over
Liquid
Beverage Containers" of late so haven't had much time.
If you want to forward me some questions you want answered I will add them as FAQ and also answer them.
Oh and BTW it was me who did the stuff at the UEA.
Yes, I was aware of that but I was busy having the kernel on my machine attended to, by Adam I think, and I never had time to ask questions. What sort of equipment is needed? What sort of cost? What licensing conditions are there and is the exam - I assume there is one - very difficult?
its a brave man who lets adam fiddle with there kernel :o)
The first question I have to ask is what do you want to use it for, how much money do you have and howmany users? Followed shortly by why did you think there was an exam for using wireless?
I know you need to do an exam for a VHF license (got mine soon) but for 802.11 you don't it sits in the Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band and is license exempt. Not however that Bluetooth, kitchen Microwaves, video senders and lots of other bits of kit live in this band.
Thanks
D

I'm thinking of being brave again and asking him for instructions on how to do it myself as I had to re install Mandrake 7.2 and it won't network to my other machine - which is why I brought it along the first time.

Money? Absolutely zero but if a benefit could be demonstrated, then no doubt some people could be persuaded to part with some folding stuff. When I was a lad, any radio transmission needed a licence. It's only recently I believe that things have been relaxed. The need is for a few people to have net access at a local computer group meeting and the room doesn't have a landline as it's usually held in the back room of a pub.
